Gallery

This art gallery showcases the pieces I commissioned to enhance my projects.

Quiet Observer as a project consists of many individual pieces and these art pieces are one of them.

I also want to use this space to give credit to the artists who did these pieces.

Giræsea

The first piece to be commissioned for the Weltentod project. Giræsea, the desert nomad turned prophet of a long forgotten goddess. She is the most clearly defined hero in this story and thus deserves the first spot in this series of commissions.

This one was done by the wonderful CicadaXxXx on Instagram.

Tree Soul

I wanted to have a design that would work well for merch. Tree Soul was the most popular song at that time and I workshopped some rough ideas with Vindur. I only knew I wanted to have flowers growing from a body and she did the rest.

Anuur

Anuur marks the beginning of my collaboration with Vindur.

Anuur represents the sound for A in writing, means tree and in a more abstract way represents growth and life.

When commissioning Vindur I only knew the rough shape of the rune and that I wanted it to look roughly like a plant or tree with ornamentation through dots. And I think she really delivered on this one.

Suur

Suur means Sun, is the letter S and represents the end of winter, warmth, nurturing love and cycles. As with all runes, more attributes can be added. These representations are meant to be aspects of the sun here as they were for trees with Anuur.

The rune itself is just a simple circle - sometimes with a dot in the center - but for the album artwork I wanted additional ornamentation so it looks like a sun.

And while Anuur was meant to look organic and like a plant for this one we went the route of it being carved into stone to fit thematically with the song.

Morem

Morem means moon and the guiding light at night.

Go gentle into that Goodnight was originally envisioned as an instrumental and as such I didn't really have an idea what the rune would look like texture wise but when Farina suggested adding those lines at the end and essentially made it about death and mourning I knew what to do.

That's why it looks like a brush stroke: This is a protective rune painted onto the shroud of a deceased lover. To guide them safely on the path through the night.

Chaos

All of these artworks were done by Valhyr who I became aware of some time before I even planned on making the album.

This first petroglyph is a depiction of Chaos, the Mad Brother of the First, the creator deities.

He represents constant change, chance, luck, breaking of predetermined paths.

The Allmother

The Allmother was done as the final piece. She is the dreamer in the void. In her waking were born the First.

When I commissioned the piece I had no real plan what to do with it. I just knew I also wanted to have a representation of the Mother for how often she is mentioned in the album.

Cosmos

When commissioning Valhyr, he put a lot of effort into the concepts of these glyphs.

Cosmos being the determined path, structure and order, she is designed as the opposite of Chaos.

Softer shapes, calmer and focused inward instead of outward.

She is the guiding hand in life and death.

Equilibrium

Equilibrium is the eldest brother and other than the twins finds balance between the predetermined path and blind wandering.

Design wise he is intended to incorporate designs from both of the twins and as such was done much later.

All three of them were intended for the first run of physical merch and a limited number of shirts with their glyphs were printed.

The Final day

This is the main artwork for the first Quiet Observer album The Final Day. When I started working on the instrumentals I had no idea yet what I wanted it to look like, only that I wanted it to be done by Felipe Machado Franco. Someone who's very distinctive style I absolutely adore. It only seemed fitting for the grand fantasy I wanted to create.
